Halloweird appealed to me as soon as I saw the book – it is Halloween related (I am crazy about the Halloween season) and has the most beautiful cover in a luscious pumpkin shade and covered with gorgeous foil words and decoration.
Mains has brought together a fabulous collection of easy to read, short stories and poetry which dates from 1780 to the 1970s. It celebrates the weirdness and spookiness of the Halloween season and includes a great selection of ghost writers including the legendary Edith Wharton. Many of the stories and poems have been rediscovered by Mains and printed for the first time since their original publication.
It didn’t take me long to read this quite substantial book with the short chapters helping me to dip in and out when I had a minute to spare. Despite it being well past Halloween when I picked it up, it certainly didn’t detract from the pleasure of devouring the ghost stories whose themes include castles, graveyards and a coach made of bones! Whether purchasing for yourself, or for a friend who loves the supernatural, it makes a great present at any time of year!
